Whisper Pin Up

Why a pin up of Whisper, well without going into all kinds of crazy details about myself, why not, it's a new year. Happy New Year everyone!

The back cover of the third book was done in the same way as the second, however the originals are much bigger as I was originally going to airbrush the entire piece by hand. I do like how it turned out, just took more layers and time because of size.

The second books back cover was done again rather large, but only so far as the pencil and ink, I then did all the color/airbrushing in photoshop, for nothing more than time constraints actually. (One would think that self publishing would give you all the time in the world . . . Um . . . no) I am happy with the overall effect though.

People really, really like these, so here you go. The original of this is huge compaired to the relatively small finished size. I did this one large as it is painted by actual airbrush, all parts of it seperate, although the blood is painted with brush. I then scanned in all of the separate parts and layered them in photoshop, as is the background and any text.
The next personal appearance will be at Micro Con in Minnesota, April. I'm going to bunker in for the winter and crank on some artwork. I'll have some prints and sneak peaks from the 4th book at the show. If any events pop up during the winter I'll try and post them.

The third and final book of the first Death's Whisper trilogy. First edition sees print in 2005. I don't want to give to much away to those of you that have not read the trilogy yet, but let's just say . . . None of us get out of this alive.

Things escalate in Death's Whisper as Mortals and Imortals intensify their attempts to destroy our doomed lovers. If this is not enough Whisper discovers the true nature of Death and realizes the implications of her situation.

This is the premier book, the first book of the Death's Whisper trilogy. Death's Whisper is at it's core a love story. Whisper an assassin for the mafia, and Death, the Grim Reaper fall for one another. When Whisper is killed during the mafia infighting Death reacts by refusing to "take" Whisper and by slaughtering her attackers, if Death where to "take" her to Heaven, Hell or Purgatory they would never see one another again. Now the rules have been broken . . . Death has overstepped his authority and Whisper cannot be stopped.

This is me and the first life size statue of Death I started to work on this summer. He stands a little over six feet, made of Grey-foam, Aqua-resin, and a bit of Paleo-sculpt on top of a steel frame and airbrushed with acrylic paints and inks. This photo is of the earlier stages before the Aqua- resin was applied. I say first life size statue, for I originally sculpted him to be "eye candy" at trade shows but considering the attention and number of photo ops that he generates I've decided to do many more. It is also an absolute blast to take a break from writing and drawing to sculpt like a fiend for a few days.

Pen/ink/acrylic on illustration board.
The original of this is about 40" x 40". Initially sketched in pencil, then gone over in pen and ink, just black ink at this time, I then added the color with airbrush, using acrylic paint, there is a tiny amount of water color in this one also. The pool of blood was also heavy use of bristle brush work. The only thing not on the original is the brownish background, that was manipulated for the cover of the book using photoshop. It's a photo of my dad's garage floor actually.
